Oak Park Concert Chorale, Paul Lindblad, Director, Presents A Copland and Mendelssohn Celebration

Oak Park, IL. – March 15, 2009 -- The Oak Park Concert Chorale (OPCC), led by director Paul Lindblad, will present a Copland and Mendelssohn Celebration on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 611 East Randolph Street, Oak Park, IL and Sunday April 26, 2009 at 4 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica, 3121 West Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, IL. General Admission for both concerts is $18; Seniors/Students $10. Children age 5 and younger are free. Group discounts are available. OPCC remains dedicated to performing varied and exciting music. Join us as we celebrate the genius of Aaron Copland and Felix Mendelssohn.

Soprano Susan Krout will join the chorale for American composer Aaron Copland’s a cappella jewel In the Beginning. Composed in 1947 for the Harvard Symposium on Music Criticism, this magnificent motet is based on texts from the opening verses of Genesis.

OPCC will also honor the 200th anniversary of the birth of Felix Mendelssohn with an assortment of his choral works. Mendelssohn was born on February 3, 1809.

About Oak Park Concert Chorale: One of the Midwest's leading choral ensembles featuring both a cappella and accompanied performances. The Chorale is comprised of a diverse group of individuals that embrace their differences of age, ethnicity, and culture. Our members come from as away as Hungary, Brazil and Nigeria. Led by Director Paul Lindblad, the chorale consists of approximately 30 singers who offer highly artistic performances of varied and exciting choral music. The Chorale is a recent recepent of the Community Bank of Oak Park and River Forest Best in Class award from the Oak Park Area Arts Council.

About Paul Lindblad: Paul Lindblad received his undergraduate degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in Church Music from Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois. Mr. Lindblad earned a Kodály Certificate from Silver Lake College, Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He has studied with Paul Christiansen, world famous choral conductor; and Katinka Daniel, International Kodály music education specialist. Mr. Lindblad has completed extensive studies in organ performance, vocal technique, and conducting under the mentorships of Victor Hildner and Douglas Neslund. Mr. Lindblad is the Director of Paul Lindblad Choristers, Director of Liturgics at St. John Lutheran Church in Forest Park, Music Teacher at Walther Lutheran Academy in Forest Park, and is the former Choirmaster at St. Gregory Episcopal Boychoir School in, Chicago .

About Susan Krout: Soprano, Susan Krout is an active performer, vocal instructor, and church musician. Ms. Krout has appeared locally as soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Mcdowell Artists Association, and the Grace Lutheran Church, River Forest, Bach Cantata Series. She is currently a member of the Chicago Symphony and the Grant Park Festival Choruses and, as such, is a frequent performer in solo/small ensembles for concerts, recordings, tours, and television appearances. Ms. Krout earned her Bachelor of Arts and Masters in Church Music degrees from Concordia University, Chicago, in River Forest, where she teaches applied voice. In addition to teaching applied voice privately, Ms. Krout is the Minister of Music at Christ Episcopal Church in River Forest.
