Anita has taken a giant first step towards that goal by joining the Oak Park Concert Chorale. She is taking a second step by attending a vocal technique workshop sponsored by the Chorale. The Oak Park Concert Chorale led by Director Paul Lindblad will be presenting and teaching all sorts of singing techniques for the closing weekend of the ArtRageous! Oak Park, Illinois Arts event: Saturday, October 10, 2009 at 10:00 at Cornerstone Church 171 North Cuyler, Oak Park, Illinois. The workshop is free and open to the public. Drinks/snacks/dessert will be provided and guests are asked to please bring a sandwich for lunch. Reservations Required. The Vocal Tech Workshop format was chosen to help Oak Park Concert Chorale members make up for gaps in their knowledge. These days, music education in public schools has taken a back seat to Math and Science and standardized tests, and choral singers like Anita do not always have the background when they join others to sing. The workshop was later expanded so that participation could be open to all those in the community, including those who always wanted to sing but never received formal training. Even experienced singers have found they learn something along the way. Material for the Workshop is selected based on trying to meet the needs of all in the community who like to sing.
Though she sings in the Chorale, Anita expects to work hard at the Vocal Tech workshop, learning skills she cannot learn at regular weekly rehearsals. It looks like Anita may just make it after all. Sing on, Anita!
The non-profit Oak Park Concert Chorale is one of the Midwest’s leading choral ensembles featuring both a cappella and accompanied performances. The Chorale is comprised of a diverse group of individuals and performs in and around Oak Park, Illinois.
